Colin O’Farrell

President & Chief Geologist

A co-founder of PCORE in 2014, Colin O’Farrell specializes in geology, interdisciplinary reservoir characterization and field development. After a successful sale of PCORE I in early 2016, O’Farrell founded PCORE II, once again with backing from Natural Gas Partners. Since 2016, O’Farrell has been focused on growing PCORE’s footprint in both the Midland and Delaware basins while drilling best-in-class horizontal wells in the Wolfcamp Shale.

Before founding PCORE, O’Farrell was a Senior Geologist with Pioneer Natural Resources in the company's Dallas, Denver and Anchorage offices. During this time O’Farrell worked on exploration, A&D and development projects in such diverse asset areas as the Rocky Mountains, Alaska’s North Slope, South Texas’s Eagle Ford and the Permian Basin. These diverse experiences help O’Farrell bring unique solutions to help maximize the value of PCORE’s Permian assets.

Prior to Pioneer, O’Farrell worked as an engineering geologist with Womack & Associates, a civil engineering firm based in Wyoming. While at Womack, O’Farrell conducted numerous field studies and made recommendations on rock mechanics, slope stability, roadway design, and rockfall hazard to support the construction industry.

O’Farrell holds a B.A. cum laude and M.S. in Earth Science, both from Dartmouth College. He has conducted field research throughout the lower 48 states, Alaska, and Europe and has authored multiple articles and abstracts for peer-reviewed journals and professional publications. An avid outdoorsman, he spends his free time backcountry skiing and mountain biking throughout North America and Europe.
